Here at the Market Basket, we are proud to offer selections from California Caviar Company. What makes our caviar selections unique is that they are fully sustainable. California Caviar Company raise their fish on their own farms. They are meticulous about the condition of water, feed, and the overall environment in which the fish are raised to ensure a quality product. Their sustainable way of caviar farming allows the fish to not only live in the best conditions possible, but also allows the fish to have a long and happy life after the caviar is harvested with their no-kill harvesting method.
“What sets us apart in the caviar industry is that our farm is completely sustainable in its nature and operation. Our infinity loop model, takes our natural water sources from our aquifers on property to supply our tanks and ponds. After it filters through our farm, our nutrient rich water goes to our neighbors to irrigate their fields for their cattle, later seeping back into the ground to replenish our mineral rich aquifers. “It is a perfect loop – what we take out we put back.” Our model has been touted by US Fish and wildlife department and used as an example for sustainable and optimal farming practices.” – California Caviar Company
Salmon Roe on Cucumber with Crème Fraiche
Salmon Roe is a pearl-sized bead shape that has rich, salty flavor. This lightly salted roe has a deep orange color. It has the biggest flavor and pop of all the roes and can be paired with many different items. One of our favorite pairings would have to be on a sliced cucumber with crème fraiche for an overall light, fresh and savory bite. You can also add this classic product to a blini, pair with avocado, and more.
Caviar and Cheese
If you’re itching to have a charcuterie night with a little wine – why not add some caviar! Royal Osetra Caviar for example is one of our favorite to pair with many cheeses. It has a darker color, pronounced brine and world of flavor. California Caviar Company’s sustainably sourced Russian Osetra caviar is best served simply – they recommend pairing with a soft blini, lightly toasted brioche or straight on a pearl spoon alongside a cold glass of champagne. But we also suggest pairing it with some of our cheese selections in our store (And wine of course). Manchego is one of our cheesemongers favorite pairings but a sharp Parmigianino Reggiano is always a classic staple to use as well.
Caviar with Radish and Crème Fraiche
If you’re looking for a unique combination of flavors – this caviar pairing suggestion is for you. Enjoy our Kaluga Hybrid on a thinly sliced radish topped with crème fraiche. This pairing has a light yet delicious crunch to it and the radish balances out the flavors of the caviar and blends smoothly together in the creaminess of the crème fraiche. This pairing is a definite must-try and will leave you wanting more.
Caviar and Eggs
Another delicious caviar pairing would have to be caviar and eggs. You can spice up your scrambled eggs for breakfast, eggs benedict, deviled eggs or even a simple hard boiled egg. Here we are using a classic White Sturgeon but this works well with virtually any caviar type. California Caviar Company notes it has addicting creamy “sea butter” characteristics. This caviar has deliciously topped everything from savory bites to sweet desserts such as chocolate mousse or even cheesecake. It also pairs perfectly with a nice glass of wine and of course champagne. Cheers!
Caviar with Dates and Goat Cheese
This pairing is the perfect bite of sweet, savory and salty flavors. Sliced dates with creamy goat cheese always make a perfect bite but add some caviar and this is a treat you have to try! We used our White Sturgeon for this pairing but nearly any variety can be used for this delicious combination as well. The sweetness of the date is balanced out by the more subtle tangy goat cheese taste and the caviar rounds the flavors out to create a truly unique combination unlike any other.
Caviar with Triple Cream Cheese
If you’re looking for a simple yet delicious caviar pairing, this is the perfect option for you. Our Queen White Sturgeon pairs deliciously with this Triple Cream Ripe Cheese. Simple, yet savory – this pairing allows you to taste the true melt-in-your-mouth flavors of the caviar without overpowering it. You can also add this combination to one of our petit mini toasts for an added crunch to your bite.
Caviar with Pear and Blue Cheese
Last but not least – this caviar pairing is sure to take the cake. White Sturgeon on a sliced pear with crumbled blue cheese and honey. This tastes like a match made in heaven! The fruitiness of the pear balances out the strong flavors of the blue cheese and the honey adds a touch of sweetness that rounds out all of the flavors in this one sweet and savory bite.
